I like the thought process used to figure out the problems, but using exponents AND skipping math steps is killing me. I am not strong in math and I am struggling to follow his skipped steps. Also, the author uses the metric system. Living in the US I use inches and feet. The book could be much simpler. I think the math is simple to the author, but the author doesn’t realize an average reader needs more explanation. I included a picture of an equation where I struggled to understand how he moves from the first equation to the second. This book teaches you how to guess better through systematically, by making assumptions and checking them. Then adjusting those assumptionsif the numbers are way off. I find the technique quite useful and I believe schools should teach students how to guestimate.The issue that I have with the book is that it does not talk much about the limitations of guesstimates. After all guesstimate is slightly better than noanswer in lot of times and also is just process to think about how you would do it if you had the resources. Also, the author does nottalk much about over simplification. Einstein says things that "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler."But assumptions in the book, simplifies things WAY TOO MUCH!However, despite these two limitations, I strongly recommend this book. Also, I encourage young readers to read this book because it will help you think and teach you to make assumptions, and check the reasonableness of your assumptions.
